  • Availability

    First Capitol field trips are available May through October each year. Reservations can be made year-round.

    Reservations

    Reservations should be made at least three weeks before your visit to ensure appropriate staffing. To reserve a date and time, call 608-987-2122 or contact us by email.

    Tour Length

    Average tour length is approximately 30 minutes.

    What's Included?

    In the Council House students will examine the first laws, discuss the fight for the capitol, and learn about early purchases of the territory. In the lodging house students will reimagine Wisconsin as a place of beginnings, dig into the everyday lives of its citizens, and think like a historian with the task of historic building preservation.

    Cost

    First Capitol field trips are free of charge.

    Refreshments

    A public picnic area is located near First Capitol at Belmont Mound State Park. Please note that no food or drink is available for purchase on site.
